Are You an Early Bird or a Night Owl? How to Tell if You Have Circadian Rhythm Imbalance.

Updated: Aug 7, 2023

Are you an early bird 🦜 or a night owl?🦉

When we're living in that fight or flight state (where our stress hormones rule the roost), cortisol becomes dysregulated and instead of having naturally high cortisol in the morning helping to wake us up, it's too high in the evening for you to fall asleep, keeping us awake, alert and giving us that 'second wind' in energy. Perfect time to get your best work done, right?

You probably also struggle getting out of bed in the morning and have trouble understanding those 'morning people' 😂. Just because you've ALWAYS been that way, it doesn't mean you have to accept that it's 'just the way you are' and that you can't change it. You totally can!

The first step is to work on reducing those stress hormones. Often we don't even realise we're stressed because it's become our normal way of functioning. Start by implementing self-care daily, easing up on the caffeine, creating a regular night-time ritual to prepare your body for sleep and eating a balanced diet.

You'll then need to heal the body and give it the right nutrients it needs to wind down at night, allowing you to fall asleep earlier and wake up earlier with more energy.
