Are Your Supplements Really Working For You?

You walk into a Pharmacy and see the range of supplements available. You’re after something that could boost your energy⚡ to stop that afternoon slump you get everyday. You see that there’s about 10 different brands to choose from that all say they’re ‘Energy Supplements', so which one do you pick? After looking at each of the bottles, you go for something in the mid-price range and that way, you can also get this other shiny supplement you saw that says it’s going to balance your hormones too 🌸. Perfect!

You start taking them and eagerly await your newfound energy to hit and your PMS to disappear. But it’s been a few weeks and you haven’t noticed anything! You feel frustrated and end up throwing them in the cupboard where your other 100 supplement bottles live collecting cobwebs. You’re not sure that anything is EVER going to help you to feel less tired or save you from your PMS symptoms.

Here are a few problems with this scenario:

  • The supplement manufacturer doesn’t actually KNOW what’s causing YOUR afternoon slump, or your PMS. They have never met you or heard your story. They have just created a product that is formulated for energy production (which might not actually be the REAL issue behind your afternoon fatigue).

  • The supplement ingredients may not be what YOU need at all.

  • There might be poor FORMS of the right nutrients for you in that bottle, meaning that your body NEEDS those nutrients, but it isn’t going to be able to do a huge amount with those particular forms, or it will have to work HARDER for those nutrients to take effect in your body.

  • You might have an issue absorbing nutrients due to your compromised digestion.

  • The dosages of each nutrient may be far too small for them to really help you.

These are just some of the very common issues with self-prescribing (not to mention potential medication interactions!).

You first need to know what is causing your afternoon slump in energy, and what is causing your PMS.

You also need to look at the health of your body as a whole, PLUS your health history, family health history, your diet & lifestyle, any deficiencies, the medications your taking, other supplements you’re taking, any diagnoses, etc. These all play very important parts in determining the reason behind your afternoon slump and PMS.

Once you understand the big picture, then you can much more effectively narrow in on the right nutrients you need (or whether you even need them at all, tweaking the diet may be all you need to do).

This is something I can help with if you’re feeling overwhelmed with trying everything, yet nothing seems to be working🌻.

There is never going to be one supplement that is formulated to 'boost energy', that will ACTUALLY boost everyones energy. There are far too many variables.

Hands up if you have giant collection of supplements in your cupboard? 🙋
